‘Returning Cross Culture: Blending our identities 2015’
14th January to 24th January 2015.
In January I attended a 10 day cultural exchange between Queensland indigenous artists and Maori artists. We shared our cultures and created collaborative works together. It was an amazing trip that forged friendships that will last forever.
The exchange was held in the Byfield National Park North Oueenland on the coast.
There were some fantastic art created, later exhibited in Yepoon, and I am sure the work was enhanced through a shared respect and knowledge of each others culture.
We were humbled and honoured to see the ceremonies and dances that were part of, especially the welcome and smoking ceremony. It was spiritually uplifting.
I have the utmost respect for the Australian people and land. I appreciated our ‘non deadly’ wildlife a lot more when I got home.
I am looking forward to their return trip in Jan next year.
